Shirley will return to the college this spring to teach “Reagan 101” during the summer term that begins May 21. The public is welcome to enroll. For more information, contact the Provost’s Office at (309) 467-6301.

Shirley is among the foremost experts on the presidential campaigns of Ronald Reagan. He is a frequent speaker, columnist and commentator on the history of Reagan’s campaigns.

Shirley’s 2009 book “Rendezvous with Destiny: Ronald Reagan and the Campaign That Changed America” discusses Reagan’s 1980 run to the White House and his victory over incumbent Jimmy Carter. His 2005 book “Reagan’s Revolution: The Untold Story of the Campaign That Started It All” details Reagan’s 1976 challenge to President Gerald Ford in the Republican primaries. The book reached No. 8 on The Washington Post’s bestseller list.

“Craig Shirley’s appointment as Visiting Reagan Scholar at Eureka College brings the resources of a world-class author right back to the place where it all began for Ronald Reagan and offers the students, the community and the members of the Ronald W. Reagan Society a rare learning experience with one of America’s great presidential scholars,” said John Morris, director of development for the Reagan Society.

Shirley is president of Shirley & Banister Public Affairs, a government relations and marketing firm in Alexandria, Va. His articles have appeared in national publications, including The Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times and the Weekly Standard.
